Druk Chirwang Tshogpa unveils its party president

DCT president Lily Wangchhuk

The Executive Director of Bhutan media Foundation Lily Wangchuk will be the party president of Druk Chirwang Tshogpa (DCT).

She said that after tedious consideration and thoughts she decided to join the party. “Almost four parties approached me to join their party but I liked DCT’s ideology where, as a woman I can relate to myself more,” she added.

Lily Wangchuk will stand as the DCT candidate from the North Thimphu constituency. The Interim Committee’s General Secretary Meghraj Tamang said she has lots of experience in Foreign Ministry, good social orientation and has been working in the Bhutan Media Foundation with lots of contribution.

Till date without a party president, he said it was hampering the works of two party workers J.N Sharma and Tandin Tshering. “So far the party was working well and it’s all because of these two architects,” he added.

He said the party was headless so far. “Now Lily Wangchuk as a strong woman party president can play a multiple role in society as compared to male,” he added.

They said Bhutan, a GNH country needs woman candidates, who can govern country with more compassion and love.

“A paradigm shift needs women care, love and courage as we have enough males ruling us,” said the interim General Secretary.

Females are equally competent as compared to males, females play multiple role in our society. Therefore Lily Wangchuk, he said has potential to be a Prime Minister as she has passion in politics and social work.

“Being a woman president of the Party I would definitely be able to provide a different perspective of government,” said Lily Wangchuk.

In addition to that she said the ruling government did a lot of contribution but can do even better than that to enable people to pursue happiness. On some part they took some wrong decisions as well.

The DCT members said she has a strong leadership quality and she likes an open discussion which we want to practice for participatory governance.

“The reforms from women leader are expected to be more people-friendly as people may not get shock out of paradigm shift,” said one of the members.

“Given the fact Bhutan has a young population and we do need some changes. So to have change we need to have more options and choices for people,” Lily Wangchhuk said. Therefore she finally decided to move into politics.

She said Bhutan’s democracy is young and it’s the responsibility of every citizen in the country to ensure that Democracy in Bhutan succeeds by their active participation. “Be it as party candidate, member or by going to polling station,” she added.

Asked about how she pre-empts contenders from the same constituency, she said she don’t even know who are contesting from her constituency. But being a woman she thinks that she can bring a positive impact in the nation.

Born on 15 October, 1972, Lily Wangchuk is the daughter of Aum Kinlay Wangmo from Trashigang and Late Sangay Wangchuk from Thimphu. 1. This is the best news I have heard concerning Bhutanese politics! She has made changes wherever she went and she can do it again! Congratulations to Aum!

  2. All the best to her and i hope she will be able to garner more credible candidates to give better choice to us!

  3. Not being gender biased etc etc….I really question her experience and competence if at all she becomes the prime minister of Bhutan.  At this time, we are already in a deep trouble, rupee crunch etc etc etc…But congrats for the effort and determination.

    • Tow- if she is not competent and experienced – she would have never been approached by political parties in the first place and if she isnt she would have also not accepted the post as well. So do not jump to your conclusions by looking at her age and face!

    • you are right my friend. Yet, another move to achieve international publicity.

    • she will be perfect PM..if elected…dnt worry…..too much….everything is possible…..

  4. Let’s have a glamourous PM with brains. Kudos!

  5. this is how bhutanese woman should standup on her own feet rather than keeping quota ..which will further de- moralized womans intellectual.. ….keepin quota is baseless idea…..we never undermined our woman……

  6. if her party wins election ..next round i will join this party……

  7. She is too young to lead a party. What are people doing to my country???!! The idea of a young lady  leading a new party in the elections, however fancy it may sound, is not acceptable as far as the democracy of Bhutan is concerned.

    • shut up……judge urself before u judge others……..MR,obama becme prsident of USA….at the age of 47…..u dnt know anithing and dnt pretend that u know too much………have u saw bhutans constitution…?

  11. Wangyal here should understand Lily Wangchuk is no more private figure. She is public figure. Criticisms and negative opinions are part of process. Please stop acting like Hitler….

Lily Wangchuk may be intelligent woman which many men envy but i don’t think she is credible enough to lead the country. If she is capable, she should prove in next 10 years. By then, we may have Madam PM with half local and half western name…

As of now, she doesn’t have to win or lead party to victory, she should raise her profile, intelligence, think of Grand Plan for Nation……

Best of luck Lily but my vote is not for your party….

  12. Who said she is becoming the Prime Minister of Bhutan? She is just a president of a political party which after the election may not even exist.  And yeah what does Lily ལི ལི mean?

    Dear Party Members,

As I have viewed the short vedio clips, Dawai Kudren in BBS. It really impressed me by her speech that the Druk Chir Wang Tshokpa is really going to bring some improvement in terms of good governance by strengthening the systems within the government organisation. I truely belief in her spoken works as of present scenario most of the organisations the employees are not been provided a good judgement between the good and under performers. I have full confidence with you as all the party members have good experiences along valid qualifications to serve the tsha Wa Sum la.
Also, I would like to suggest/supplement that if your party could focus on the issues like
    1. Rural Marketing aspects and agricultural maketings.
    2.Curbing of rural urban migrations
3.Enhancement of farm machinery and inputs
4.Availability of rural credits by banks
    5 Conservation of environment/religions & infrastructure, etc
Lastly I wish you all the best of luck for coming elections with a hopes to bring change in Country for the benefits of public.
