A 49-year-old woman lost her life in an accident at Yusipang, Thimphu on 15 August after the Santro taxi she was travelling in veered off the road, 30 feet below the road. The accident took place during early morning hours at around 5:30 AM.
Along with the deceased, there were four other passengers who are from the same family, a 16-year-old girl, a 17-year-old girl, a 37-year-old man and a 21-year-old man. All four of them sustained minor injuries in the accident.
They had travelled to Wangdue on 14 August to pick up the 16-year-old daughter, whereby the incident took place while they were returning back to Thimphu from Wangdue on morning of 15 August.
Police said that the probable cause of accident is slip driving, whereby the 21-year-old driver lost control of the car and veered off the road. The deceased was a vegetable vendor at CFM market while the father drives a taxi.
The body of the deceased was handed over to the family the same day and the case is under investigation. All the four victims have been discharged from the hospital.
