13 candidates contest for the Mongar NC

Naichu (Saling)

Naichu, 53, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce and Diploma in Marketing and Business Studies. He served as the member of NC in the first parliament from 2008-2013 and has worked in Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI).

He said, “People will vote for me for my experience, maturity and commitment to serve the people”.

“If elected, I would focus on approach that targets on self-reliance, social justice and participatory decision making. I shall enact people centered and practically implementable laws. I would also promote the private sector and rural enterprise for enhancement of rural income and employment generation,” he added.

Sonam Wangchuk (Ngatshang)

Sonam Wangchuk, 32, holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Gaeddu College of Business Studies. He is the incumbent Member of the Parliament, National Council.

He said, “If people elect me again this year, I would review public policy, initiate legislation, scrutinize the state affairs. By being responsive to citizen’s needs, I shall recognize, deliberate and resolve national issues and promote balanced socio-economic development. I shall also support entrepreneurship to achieve further self-reliance and independence.”

Tshering Wangchen (Narang)

Tshering Wangchen, 38, holds a BA (Honours) degree in Dzongkha and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. He has served for 8 years under the Ministry of Education (MoE) and has also worked in Gross National Happiness Center (GNHC) and Drug and Alcohol Association.

He said, “I am bilingual, fluent in both English and Dzongkha, which is an asset for me. In addition, I have 13 years of experience in different organizations like MoE, GNHC, Drug and Alcohol Association.”

“I am a recipient of Jigme Dorji Wangchuck Gold Medal in Leadership from Sherubtse College and also served as the president of the student body .”

With those leadership qualities, he said, “I can serve people with humility and dignity in upholding the Constitution.”

Ugyen Tshering (Dramedtse)

Ugyen Tshering, 34, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and has 5 years of work experience in teaching and 3 years in guiding.

He said, “National Council is the legislative body which ensures that government safeguards the interests of the nation and fulfills the aspirations of the people through public review and policies and issues, bills and legislation. Honesty and integrity, commitment and passion, decision making capabilities and accountability are the leadership qualities, and I believe people shall vote for me if I have such qualities.”

Chimi Dorji (Shermuhoong)

Chimi Dorji, 32, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and has worked as a shift in-charge at Ferro Silicon, Samdrup Jongkhar for more than 2 years. He has also worked as a sales associate in Dubai for a year.

He said, “I will strive to serve the Tsa-Wa-Sum with utmost loyalty and analysis.”

If elected, he said, “I would review the performance of the government including the implementation of planned activities of Five Year Plan (FYP). I shall also engage in policy discourse to address the key issues relating to security, property, youth unemployment, health accessibility to information and services.”

Neten (Chaskhar)

Neten, 32, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts from College of Language and Culture Studies. He has served under Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) as a constable for 8 years and also as an administrator for a private organization.

He said, “People of Mongar should vote for me based on my pledges. I would bring regional economic balanced development by decentralizing all ministry headquarters to every dzongkhag, in order to resolve the issue of Gungtong and rural- urban migration. I shall also review agricultural policies to make people self–sufficient.”

Tshering Penjor (Balam)

Tshering Penjor, 32, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and has worked as a senior artist at the Royal Academy of Performing Arts (RAPA).

He said, “People should vote for me because I have good leadership quality and communication skills. I can also bring free and fair economic development through review of 12th Five Year Plan and polices.”

Pema Dorji (Silambi)

Pema Dorji, 29, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Environment and is a businessman.

He said, “I would make sure that development benefits every Bhutanese, and I would do my best to strengthen democratic good governance and rule of law. I would also follow up on past resolutions of NC and disseminate to grassroots.”

Sonam Pelzom (Tsamang)

Sonam Pelzom, 32, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Dzongkha and Geography. She has a 5 years experience in teaching and has also worked as English teacher in Thailand.

She said, “I come from a humble background and I share lots of common things with the people at the grassroot. So I can understand the issues related to the commoners”.

Yeshi Lhendup (Kengkhar)

Yeshi Lhendup, 32, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts, Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Post Graduate Diploma in National Law. He is the chief executive officer of Tendhey Legal Firm.

He said, “I am contesting for the upcoming election to provide an appropriate choice to the people so that they can choose the most capable befitting the role and responsibilities of NC.”

He also mentioned, “In the House, there are many issues to be reviewed pertaining to the impugned laws. There are laws which need immediate amendment, laws which are intended to address certain grievances, but blatantly failed to do so.”

Jamyang Loday (Tsakaling)

Jamyang Loday, 32, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Legal Sciences, Bachelor of Law and Post Graduate Diploma in National Law. He has served as a managing advocate at Bhutan Law Chamber, Thimphu, an advocate in UD and partners advocate.

He said, “I am a lawyer who has learned law, practiced law and argued law before courts over five years.  I believe that a lawyer with experience in practicing law can become a good law maker. ”

He also said, “I will serve with utmost dedication and commitment. With change in time, everything changes and nothing remains static. So is the laws, it should be reviewed and amended accordingly with changing times.”

Rinchen Dorji (Mongar)

Rinchen Dorji, 28, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and IT. Rinchen said, “I want to bring the necessary changes in the lives of people in my dzongkhag.  My plan is to bring balanced development across the dzongkhag and assure that issues like poverty, inequity, unemployment and youth are addressed along with other national issues.

He also said, “I commit to uphold the constitution for a vibrant democracy and strengthen the rule of law. I will coordinate with the three NA members from Mongar to address Mongar centric issues.”

Ugyen Dorji (Thangrong)

Ugyen Dorji, 32, has a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Geography and has worked as an administrative officer in a construction company. Despite an email, multiple calls and sms messages the candidate did not respond.
