Gelephu police arrested three people last month in possession of banned substances.
On the evening of February 22, police arrested a 23-year-old man from Bardo, Trong, with 17 pieces of hashish, weighing 236.37 grams. The consignment was concealed in his bag and was wrapped in a plastic paper. The suspect was travelling towards Zhemgang when he was arrested.
Meanwhile, at around 10 pm on 23 February Gelephu police apprehended two suspects, both 29 years old, from border check post. Police found in their possession of 765 capsules of SP and 6.79 grams of cannabis. The suspects said they bought the consignment hidden in the bonnet of the car from Jaigaon paying Nu 5000. A thorough search the next day recovered an additional 1008 capsules of SP, which was hidden inside the air filter and window pad. The suspects were detained and the vehicle impounded for further investigation.
One suspect is from Norjang, Mongar, and working as a mechanic while the other is from Upper Salami, Tsirang and is presently serving as Lab technician. Both the suspects are working in the same firm.
