4 arrested for possession of controlled substances

Thimphu police arrested four people, including a female,for possession of illegal controlled substancesin the first week of 2017.

The arrested, in their 30s, are free lance guides while some operated businesses.

On 1 January police arrested two men,of which one was carrying 38 capsules of SP. The other man was acting as an intermediaryto market the substance.

On 4 January, Thimphu police arrested a 30-year-old man from Olakhawith 720 capsules of SP. That night, acting on a tip-off, police arrested a 38 year old woman from Babesa and seized 5112 capsules of SP from her shop. The controlled substance was concealed in a beer carton box, and beer bottles placed on top.

Police said illegal trafficking and possession of controlled substance is increasing because it is a money-making business.

On the last day of 2016, police arrested a 36-year-old man with 135 capsules of SP near the Changlimithang stadium.
