A five-year-old boy who was seriously injured in a motor crash near Rurichhu, Wangdue, on 4th May evening died on the way to Bajo hospital according to Wangdue police.
The boy and an elderly woman had taken a lift in a truck loaded with stones, which plunged 220 feet below the road near the highway tunnel in Wangdue.
Police received information about the mishap at around 6 pm. The boy and elderly women were rushed to hospital but the boy died on the way. Except for minor cuts and bruises the truck driver escaped unhurt.
Police said the crash occurred because of negligence. “When a trucking company knows it is hiring a driver with a record of negligent driving it should be held directly responsible under negligent hiring, negligent supervision and negligent entrustment,” a traffic official from Zawakha Police Station said. “Trucking companies owe the public a duty to properly train and supervise the truck driver they put on the road.”
