Bhutan Telecom Limited (BTL), the nation’s premier telecom company marked the world telecommunication society day (WTISD) Friday, which also coincided with the company’s 50 years anniversary or Golden Jubilee celebration.As the BTL celebrates 50 years of providing telecommunication services across the nation, the company has announced reductions in tariffs and introduction of long term evolution (LTE) service or 4G for high speed data capability among many other new schemes.
With the international WTISD theme this year ‘ICTS and improving road safety’, BTL staffs and guests gathered at the company’s head quarter in the capital to observe the day filled with various event items.
“We, in BT take immense pride in being the number one telecommunications service provider in the country, and on this important day, we re-affirm our pledge to the nation that we will spare no efforts to provide improved services to our customers,” chief executive officer of BTL, Nidup Dorji said.
The CEO emphasized on road traffic safety. “While these technologies are becoming increasingly ubiquitous, we must insure that we use them responsibly and with caution, especially while driving, in order to avoid accidents and injury. Driver distraction and road-user behavior, such as “text messaging” and interfacing within vehicle navigation or communication systems while driving, are among the leading contributors to road traffic fatalities and injuries,” the CEO said. BTL also allowed special offers to its customers .
