Bhutanese student commits suicide in India

A Bhutanese student studying electrical engineering in India was found dead in his hostel room on the night of August 8.

The deceased, from Pemagatsel is believed to have committed suicide by hanging himself.

The deceased was a student of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Kurukshetra, Haryana, India. He went there in 2015 to study electrical engineering under the India Council for Cultural Relation (ICCR) scholarship program.

Officials from Home Ministry said that the Bhutan Embassy in Delhi is working with the Indian Government to assist is getting the body home.

Home ministry officials also said that the embassy had called the deceased’s friend and they were informed that the body was kept in the mortuary.

It is believed that the incident took place after classes on 8 August. When a classmate went to the deceased’s room at 8 pm, the door was found locked from inside.

Again at 11 PM, when the friend went back to check and still found the door locked from inside, they broke the door and found the deceased hanging in his room.

It was learnt that, a suicide note recovered from the body suggested that he did not hold anyone responsible for his move.
