Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) won Bumthang both in terms of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and postal ballot votes.
Conquering both EVM and postal ballot, the party president in Choekhar-Tang secured 2540 votes compared to PDP which got 1048, DNT got 921 and and BKP got 237.
DPT president Dr. Pema Gyamtsho said that the factor for the party’s passage to the final is credited to the experience of the party as both ruling and opposition for the last ten years. The experience and the track record of the party has established a trust in the people, he said, adding that this has led it to the general round.
DNT stood third in the constituency with 921 votes after PDP. DNT’s candidate Dawa said the party’s drop in the constituency could be his joining in the party much later. “The other two parties are well known and well established” He however said that the by the overall votes the party could do well in the general election.
DPT also established victory in Chummig – Ura with total of 968 votes. The party won against PDP by 74 votes. The party candidate Karma Wangchuk said the win from the constituency as well as for the general round was expected.
He said the in terms of voters, the people have become highly aware about voting and people generally look for the president’s capability. On the party’s support region wise, he said that the DPT has a strong supporter base in the east, “They have been loyal since the beginning, through the second election and till now”. He added this is important considering the highest number of voters are in the east.
