Case goes to court with seven charges on the tourist guide

A total of seven charges were imposed on the 39 year old tourist guide who was arrested by the Paro police for sexual assault of an Australian tourist.

The case has been forwarded to the Paro dzongkhag court by the Office of Attorney General (OAG) on 12 December after the case was handed over by the police to OAG on Monday.

The suspect is booked for the offence of battery, sexual harassment, trespass, reckless endangerment, official misconduct, and harassment under the Penal Code of Bhutan (2004).

He is also charged under section 66 (c) of Road Safety and Transport Authority (RSTA) act for culpable driving – under the influence of alcohol or drug addiction to such an extent that he or she was incapable of proper control over the motor vehicle.

Almost all the charges fall under misdemeanor and petty misdemeanor.

An OAG official said a miscellaneous hearing has been conducted and preliminary hearing is scheduled to begin in the Paro court very soon.

The Secretariat of the Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB) blacklisted and cancelled Dorji Tshering’s (the suspect) company license. He is the proprietor of M/s Bhutan Kuenphen Tours & Treks.
