The Changjiji Housing Complex with around 5,000 residents is deemed as a colony prone to youth crime, vandalism and social ills.
As measures to curb the problems, the National Housing and Development Corporation (NHDC) will build a children’s park and a community centre at the Changjiji Housing Complex to promote social interaction and unity.
According to the senior architect, NHDC, Chador Y. Jamtsho, the children’s park will have play stations, walk ways, benches, etc. and even a mani dungkhor for the senior citizens who visit the park.
The site development works have already started on the park. It is being developed on an acre of land within the housing complex, and with a budget of Nu. 5mn. NHDC will receive further financial assistance from a NGO, Rural Education and Development (READ) Bhutan, to provide play stations and other facilities in the park. The children’s park is scheduled to be complete in July.
With support from READ Bhutan, NHDC will also set up a community centre at Changjiji. Four units of a building in the Changjiji Housing Complex will be converted into the community centre equipped with information technology facilities, women’s section, and a library stocked with more than 3,000 books.
The general manager of Real Estate Divison, NHDC, Dechen Wangdi, said the corporation has already started with the modification works on the community centre and it should be commissioned within three months.
