During the Question-and-Answer session in the National Assembly, the Member of Parliament (MP) of Dramedtse-Ngatshang constituency, Ugyen Wangdi, said there is a need to review the government’s policy on the eligibility criteria for the government scholarships for class XII pass students.
The MP said students who are repeating in class XII do not get government scholarships.
In response, the Education Minister, Jai Bir Rai, said any class XII students, either a regular student or those who have repeated the same class, will be eligible for the government scholarships, but those class XII students who took up supplement classes will not be eligible for the scholarships.
Lyonpo said the priority will be given to the regular students and those who repeated the same class. This is because the supplement students could not fetch the required marks, and the students have already availed themselves of the opportunity, and therefore, it will be unfair for the fresh regular students who managed to secure a good mark for the scholarships.
However, the supplement students are eligible for the government scholarships within the country.
