Coronation Cup ends with Phojas and defending champions Mystiques lifting the trophies

Phojas emerged as winners in the Coronation Cup man’s finals played on Sunday against the Wizards.

The YDF indoor stadium was crowded with spectators at the finals. Supporters of both the teams sat on the edge of their seats with the first half of the game seeing competitive baskets.

The second half of the match saw Wizards employing a new strategy, playing up an effective defense which denied the Phojas shots as in the earlier half.

But as the game progressed, the Wizards lost grip and frequent fouls from the defenders afforded  free shoots to the Phojas which guaranteed the win.  Spectators whom The Bhutanese talked to said that the game was “very competitive” and they enjoyed it. Some fans supporting Wizards said that they expected much from their favorite team but fortunes reversed in the latter part of the game.

In the women’s final, the defending champions once again rocked the YDF hall. Mystiques had an easy win of 60-48 against the Pamos.

The coronation Cup began on 22 March. Information and Communications minister, Lyonpo Nandalal Rai handed over the trophies to the winners and runners up. The tournament was organized by the Bhutan Basketball Federation (BBF) and was funded by Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC).
