The father who was alleged of killing his new born baby on the night of March 14 in Sephu under Wangdue Phodrang has been slapped with a prison term of three years and three months by the Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag Court last week.
The 25-year-old culprit was detained by the Wangdue Phodrang police after he was accused of throwing his new born baby on the wall which resulted in an immediate death of the baby on that night.
On the morning of March 14, the culprit had left home to work for one of his neighbor’s house and returned home drunk in the evening. An argument had then broken between the culprit and his wife.
Then the defendant had walked away and started to look for some documents. When he could not find his documents, he had asked his wife about the documents and she had replied that it might be under the pillow. Unable to find his documents, out of anger, he had picked up his new born baby and threw him on the wall. The baby was born the same day.
The wife picked up the baby and tried feeding him but the baby was not feeding. By then the baby was dead. The next day, the matter was reported to police by some of the villagers and the suspect was then arrested and detained by the police.
However, the culprit was released on bail by the court and finally the verdict on the case was pronounced last week.
