This year the 120 Desuups of 2012 will participate in the upcoming National Day for the first time.
It will be the first time for the members of the Desuups to participate in the National Celebration which is held every year in the Changlimithang grounds on 17 December to mark the historical event of the country’s unification under one leader and hereditary monarch Gongsar Ugyen Wangchuck, the first king of Bhutan.
The practice sessions are in swing with the Royal Bhutan Army (RBA) and Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) who are participating with the Desuups.
The Desuups are also in preparations to present a cultural program based on zhey (folk dances) where four groups of Desuups will be divided into two groups.
“We are participating for the first time in this event because we are taking pride as a Bhutanese and moreover it is a special event where we are proud of our country,” said the coordinator Tashi Tobgay.
Talking to some of the Desuups about their first time participation on 17 December, a participant Tshering Dorji, 27 said he is proud that this year the Desuups are participating in a great event because firstly it is His Majesty’s project and “if we didn’t join this time then we will be not getting any best chances further”.
Namgay Lhamo, 25 a graduate from Kalimpong and now an actress by profession said she is lucky that she is one of the Desuups of this year and she is getting a chance to perform in a great event and is proud to be a Bhutanese citizen and part of the Desuups which is His Majesty’s project.
