Following the primary round of elections, the Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa sent out a press release to the local media where it congratulated the presidents, candidates, and the supporters of the Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for making it through the primary, while it also acknowledged the Election Commission (ECB) for successfully conducting the Primary Rounds. DNT also congratulated the Druk Chirwang Tshogpa (DCT) for its participation and providing an alternative to the people.
“The people of Bhutan have spoken and the collective choice always had good wisdom and we respect the sacrosanct decision of the people. As DNT humbly bows out of the 2013 elections we would like to inform all our candidates and supporters across the country that we have given our best. We don’t believe that there’s ever been an effort in our party that can compare with what you have done over these past few months. Thank you so very much,” stated the release.
The party maintained that democracy is about the people and it had full confidence that DPT and PDP would uphold the interest of the nation before the party interest.
“The nation, as you know, is at a critical point. At a time like this, we can’t risk partisan bickering and political posturing. Therefore, all five political parties have to reach across the aisle to do the people’s work. And we citizens also have to rise to the occasion,” the release stated.
Meanwhile, the candidates and supporters of DNT are regrouping in Thimphu this week and one of the important agendas to be discussed is the welfare of its candidates who have sacrificed their jobs to participate in the democratic process.
“In Nyamrup spirit, we will continue to work with all our hearts, soul and strength for the people of Bhutan. The task has just begun,” concluded the DNT release.
The release ended with DNT’s reiteration of its ideology which reads:
“On cooperation with other political parties: DNT is a party of ideology. The foundation of this ideology is that democracy must bring about a People’s Government. Any cooperation or sharing of candidates with other parties will be based on laws of the country and whether our ideology will be upheld. Therefore, it will require much contemplation, but the party is above individuals, just as the country is above political parties. We will do what is good for the country and people.”
