The deadline of June 30 looms large over the ruling party and the opposition to clear their debts with financial institutions and private companies. The parties will have to honor the election commission’s criteria of clearing all debts.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) still has an outstanding debt of Nu 20mn, while Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) has still not cleared the Nu 600,000 with Bhutan Times. The DPT has however cleared its debt with Bhutan Observer and Kuensel.
The DPT Secretary General Thinley Gyamtsho said the party was positive about clearing off the debt since supporters have shown interest to contribute to the party.
The PDP has a comparatively higher ratio of cleared and un-cleared debt but it is optimistic about clearing the rubble on time.
PDP Secretary General, Yogesh Tamang said they are optimistic as the membership has increased with volunteers who want to contribute in their own ways.
“We have already thought-out few strategies but we will not disclose it now,” said Yogesh Tamang.
