DPT wins Zhemgang & Samdrup Jongkhar

Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) won all the constituencies in Zhemgang and Samdrup Jongkhar in the General Round of National Assembly Election 2018.

DPT won both constituencies, Panbang and Bardo Trong, in Zhemgang as in the primary round.

DPT’s candidate from Panbang, Dorji Wangdi, secured a total of 2,984 votes (1,388 PB + 1,596 EVM). DNT’s candidate, Tshering, received 2,525 votes (1,021 PB + 1,504 EVM).

Tshering said, “From my constituency, I lost because of facilitation booth, and in addition, the people are not educated and they do not know much about elections.”

DPT’s candidate from Bardo-Trong Gyembo Tshering, secured the highest votes at 3,633 votes (1794 PB + 1,839 EVM). DNT’s Sonam Leki secured 3,507 votes (1,953 PB + 1,554 EVM).

Gyembo Tshering said, “ I think I won from the constituency because this is my second time contesting for election and people know me more as I have interacted with them since 2013.”

Samdrup Jongkhar

DPT’s candidate from Dewathang Gomdar, Ugyen Dorji, secured 5,367 votes (2,198 PB + 3,169 EVM). DNT’s Thinley Namgay got 5,144 votes (2,175 PB + 2,969 EVM).

Ugen Dorji said, “DPT won because of its manifesto. Our manifesto is doable and achievable. People also voted based on party’s leadership.”

DPT’s candidate from Jomotshangkha Martshala, Norbu Wangzom, secured a total of 4,372 votes (2176 PB + 2,196 EVM).

Ugyen Dorji from DNT received 1,587 votes from the postal ballot and 1,960 votes from EVM, taking the total to 3,547 votes.
