Drayang employee drowns herself in Phuentsholing stream

Phuentsholing police recovered the body of a 21-year-old woman from Bebari, India on June 16 at around 1 pm. The deceased had committed suicide by jumping into Dotikhola (Omchu) in Phuentsholing.

The incident was reported to Phuentsholing police on June 15 by the manager of Norzang Builder. The incident took place at around 11:45 pm, whereby the deceased had jumped into the swollen river, Dotikhola. The search for the body was launched as soon as the report was filed with the police.

The deceased was identified as a dancer in one of the drayangs in Phuentsholing, and was from Gadhen, Umling, Sarpang.

On interviewing an eyewitness, who was playing basketball, police said that, at around 11:45 pm, the eyewitness saw the deceased going towards the riverside and jumping into the river. At the time of the incident, the deceased was said to be visibly drunk.

The deceased woman’s torn handbag was recovered from the riverbank near the sewerage side by Indian labourers while collecting boulders.

The body was handed over to the parents of the deceased woman on the same day.
