Five years for attempt to rape a minor

Paro dzongkhag court ordered a prison term of five years and a month on 16 November to convict Mani Raj Rai, 43 for attempting to rape a 13 year old school girl in Paro this year.

The victim is a class III student of the school where the convict is a caretaker. The convict called the victim to his house and tried to rape her on 3 October in Gunitshawa.

The case was lodged with Woman and Child Protection Unit (WCPU) of Paro police station by the school’s principal.

The convict was charge-sheeted for ‘attempt’ to rape of a minor above age of 12 years since the case was reported weeks later, and medical findings could not confirm the rape.
