Friendship association for Bhutan in France holds meeting

The Annual General Meeting of Les Amis du Bhoutan, the Friendship Association for Bhutan in France was held in Paris on 15th February 2019. Ambassador Pema Choden attended the event at the invitation of the Association.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Choden thanked the President and the members of Les Amis du Bhoutan for their continuous friendship and support to Bhutan. She also provided a briefing on recent developments in Bhutan including the third parliamentary elections.

Dr. Francoise Pommaret, founder and President of Les Amis du Bhoutan, who was re-elected unanimously to the post during the meeting, presented a report on the activities of the Association.  These include co-hosting, with the Society Switzerland-Bhutan, of the Biennial Meeting of European Friendship Societies for Bhutan in Geneva and Chamonix in June 2018; continued sponsorship for disadvantaged school children as well as for young entrepreneurs; and providing information on Bhutan in Europe including in the French language.

Dr. Thierry Mathou, Director for Asia and Oceania of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France also attended the event.

The event was attended by 34 members of the Association from France, Belgium and Switzerland. Les Amis du Bhoutan was founded in 1987 and is amongst the oldest Friendship Associations of Bhutan in Europe.
