Two-day workshop on environmental issues

Three gewogs of Merak, Sakteng and Shongphoong under Trashigang Dzongkhag attended two-workshop which aimed to sensitize the local leaders on the environment issues, climate change, poverty and others.

The two-day workshop was conducted in the Dzongkhag Yargay Tshogchung (DYT) conference hall from 19-20 October.

The main theme of the workshop was ‘green socio-economic development.’

Merak Gup Ghayden said it was more about the environment where one has to make sure when the developmental activities are taking place in the gewogs; nature is not being harmed at any cost.

“Moreover considering the importance of the nature, we learned a lot from workshop,” he said.

He said earlier we didn’t have such kind of knowledge and all in nature were not so much of concern and it was the same for the other local leaders too.

All the participants in the gewog gained much knowledge from the workshop which needs to be applied during the 11th five year plan.

The participants from the gewog comprised Gups, Gewog Administration Officers (GAO), Mangmis and Tshogpas from three gewogs.

Altogether a total of 25 people participated in the workshop.
