Government planning to test people along the main National Highways

People should wear mask and maintain social distancing or there will be more cases says Health Minister

Health Minister Dechen Wangmo during the press briefing said that the Ministry will be testing people along the main national highways given the risk of interaction with COVID-19 carriers.

“We are done with all the testing in Phuentsholing and we will carry out testing in households along the highway. Not only on the Thimphu and Phuentsholing highway but also in all the main highways in the country because the virus could be carried by travelers and we are concerned if a infected person came into contact with the people while stopping for a meal,” the Health Minister said, adding that they have already started testing from Phuentsholing highway and it will be completed by tomorrow.

Lyonpo said that as per a central plan they are going to manage 100 teams and they will send teams from this 100 to Gelephu.

“We are prepared and we have sent 50 teams in Phuentsholing and 70 of them are here in Thimphu.  We have formed a stronger team within the country and this team is being sent to the places where it is needed,” Lyonpo said.

The Ministry is also prepared and will bring doctors and nurses where it is needed.

“This year the Ministry of Health is very fortunate because under His Majesty’s command the doctors, nurses who are qualified have been recruited under a contract and also the retried medical teams and around 40 doctors including those who are studying abroad are here in the country,” Lyonpo added.

Lyonpo said that some countries have already reached to third and fourth wave of the virus and if people don’t wear masks and practice social distancing after the lockdown is relaxed then there will be more cases.

Lyonpo said, they are going to provide all the citizens with the flu vaccine to minimize the risk. She thanked His Majesty for this.
