High Level Advocacy tour in Punakha, Wangdue and Gasa

The western districts of Punakha, Wangduephodrang and Gasa will be the focus of a high-level advocacy tour by Her Majesty Gyalyum Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck from 12th to 22nd of November.

The ten day tour will create awareness on public health and social issues such as HIV/AIDS and STDs, suicide prevention, mental health and adolescent related issues and mother and child health issues.

The tour is aimed at seeking support of local government, community and institutes in tackling public health and social issues and will review the status of Multi-Sectorial Task Force and Community Based Support System (CBSS- RENEW).

The awareness programme will be conducted in schools, colleges, religious communities, business and local communities. Her Majesty will also meet with the armed force personnel and families and visit hospitals.

The tour will carry out sensitisation on priority communicable and non-communicable diseases, comprehensive school health program and advocacy on Respect, Educate, Nurture and Empower Women (RENEW) and National Commission for Women and Children (NCWC) and LHAKSAM.

The head of health promotion division said the advocacy will set free the barriers in making those health issues widely known to people.

So far the awareness programme, which started in September 2016, has covered 16 dzongkhags. The last tour will be done in Thimphu after Punakha, Wangdue and Gasa. The advocacy tour will start from Punakha from 12th till 15th followed by Wangduephodrang from 15th till 18th and 18th till 22nd in Gasa.
