His Majesty The King graced the consecration ceremony of a new Palden Lhamoi Lhakhang in Tenchey village, Lunana on 6th July 2018. The consecration prayers were presided over by the Dorji Lopen of the Zhung Dratshang.
The lhakhang was built after restoring an old derelict village house, in accordance with His Majesty’s Command during the last Royal visit to Lunana in 2016.
As one of the most important protective deities of Bhutan, Palden Lhamo is revered across the country as the guardian of its inhabitants.
She is especially important to the people of the highlands, who live on harsh terrain and count on divine blessings to assist their difficult existence, that demands a great deal of hard work and grit.
The locals also believe that the temple, at 4,100 meters above sea level, stands on holy ground, and its blessings would spread across the entire country and bring benefit to all those who live within and beyond.
