His Majesty The King appointed 4 secretaries and promoted 20 Armed Force officers on 17th August 2016 in the Tashichhodzong
Rinzin Dorji, formerly the director general of the Construction Development Board, was appointed as the secretary of the ministry of agriculture and forests.
Karma Tshering Namgyal, formerly the consul general at the Royal Bhutan Consulate in Kolkata, was appointed the secretary of Dratshang Lhentshog.
Thinley Namgyel, the former director of the Gross National Happiness Commission was appointed as the Commission’s secretary.
Chencho Norbu, the former director general of the department of forests and park services in the ministry of agriculture and forests, was appointed as the secretary of the National Environment Commission.
The Secretaries to the Government are appointed by His Majesty The King, in accordance with Article 2.19 of the Constitution, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, who shall obtain nominations from the Royal Civil Service Commission on the basis of merit and seniority and in accordance with other relevant rules and regulations.
His Majesty also granted promotions to 14 officers from the Royal Bhutan Army and 6 officers from the Royal Body Guard. The officers have been promoted from the rank of Lt. Colonel to Colonel. Among the officers who have been promoted, 6 are on deputation to various UN Peacekeeping Missions around the world.
His Majesty The King is the Supreme Commander-in-Cheif of the Armed Forces.
