Lone candidate, Dasho Dr. Sonam Kinga, former National Council representative from Trashigang is once again victorious securing an overwhelming 11,219 ‘yes’ votes and just 2,620 ‘No’ votes.
Dasho Dr. Sonam Kinga secured 7,826 yes votes through the EVM and 3,393 votes through postal ballot votes. He was nominated from Shongphu gewog.
“I will have won only five years later if I were then able to work toward the fulfillment of commitments I made to the people,” Dasho Dr. Sonam Kinga said.
He added that it is an illusion to think that an electoral victory is a victory until all electoral aspirations are realized. “My gratitude goes to everyone in Trashigang as well as people in other dzongkhags who have voted and who have extended their good wishes for an electoral outcome transcended Trashigang,”
The re-elected candidate Dasho Dr. Sonam Kinga served as the Deputy Chairperson of the National Council and he also served as the Chairperson of the House Committee and Good Governance Committee.
Dasho Dr. Sonam Kinga was also awarded the Red Scarf by His Majesty the King during his tenure as the NC representative.
Before contesting in 2008 elections Dasho Dr. Sonam Kinga was the first Editor of the Bhutan Observer and he also served as the Senior Program Officer with Save the Children. Further he worked as a Research Officer for the Center for Bhutan Studies and later served as a Publication Officer with CAPSD under the Ministry of Education.
Dasho Dr. Sonam Kinga has a Phd in Area Studies from Kyoto University in Japan and he also has Masters in Area Studies form Kyoto University, Japan. He has a diploma from Lestor B. Pearson College in Canada and a Bacholers degree in English honors from Sherubtse College.
