Man arrested for illicit trafficking of cannabis

Thimphu police arrested a 31-year-old man from Lhuntse in possession of hashish at around 17:30 hours on December 9 from Changzamtog, Thimphu, opposite to the call center building.
Police said that, based on an information tip off, a police team raided the house that the suspect was living in and recovered 14 sticks of hashish and 2 joints of hashish weighting 68.75 grams.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect said that he exchanged the hashish with his mobile phone. One stick of hashish might fetch around Nu 1800,” said the police.
Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Substance Abuse Act of Bhutan, 2015, section 133 states that, a defendant shall be guilty of an offence of illicit trafficking of cannabis and its derivatives, regardless of the degree of purity, if he or she imports, exports, stores, sells, purchase, transports, distributes, or supplies cannabis or its derivatives if it is more than the quantity determined in Schedule VII (minimum quantity for illicit trafficking) of this Act.
Section 134 states that, the offence of illicit trafficking of cannabis and its derivatives shall be a felony of third degree if the quantity is more than two times the quantity determined in the schedule VII of this Act.
Or a felony of fourth degree, if it is more than the quantity determined in schedule VII of this Act but equal to or less than two times the quantity determined.
The suspect is under police custody and the case is under investigation.
