MP completes term but not promises in Dzongkhag

The Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) has completed five years of governance, but some promises have not been met. The roads in a certain area in Dagana are in dire need of repair.

The people in Dagana were promised better roads, if not new roads by the former Dagana MP Sonam Jamtsho, which was never delivered.

According to the gewog administration and the people in Drujeygang, the DPT had promised a ‘smooth’ road from Yongsibji (zero-point) to Drujeygang Higher Secondary School, which would be a nine-kilometres stretch of blacktopped road.

“We were really in need of good roads in our gewog because the roads we have are jagged and unfriendly to travel on. MP Sonam Jamtsho during his campaign for DPT in 2008, had promised us that our gewog will have smooth roads and a guest house, but still it has been years and no works have been started,” the gewog Gup Thinley Wangchuk said.

“Last year we did also send a request letter on this issue to the Gross National Happiness Commission (GNHC). They responded that there is no benefit of the roads as of now because no other gewogs have such roads. And about the guest house which was also in the DPT plan, got a negative response.”

When contacted by this paper, the former Dagana MP Sonam Jamtsho refused to comment on the issue.

Talking to some of the residents of Drujeygang, Tshewang (name changed on request) said, “MP Sonam Jamtsho promised us everything just to get votes from the public because if he meant to do the works, which was in the plan he would have started the works since a long time back.”
