Out of the five candidates, Punakha elected Namgay Dorji from Talo as their representative in the National Council with 3,316 votes.
Namgay Dorji, 41, competed against the incumbent Lhaki Dolma and other candidates, Dorji Tenzin, Dophu Drukpa, and Chencho Wangdi.
With the slogan ‘People First, Policy Second’, Namgay pledged to prioritize security and sovereignty of the country in accordance with the Constitution, prioritize policies and development plan and serve as a bridge between the government and the Local Government, facilitate timely completion of the developmental activities prioritized in the Five-Year-Plan, work diligently towards fulfilling the vision of Gross National Happiness, support the reformations envisioned by His Majesty The Druk Gyalpo with utmost dedication.
Namgay shares he is happy with his win. “I’m happy that Punakha heard my earnest voice and was able to trust my dedication to the Tsa-Wa-Sum. As I’m now elected, I will always put people before policy which I felt was never followed in reality.”
With a wide range of experiences ranging from teaching to filmmaking, Namgay finally won the elections after contesting for the third time for the National Council Elections. “My failure in the past election were always taken by my mind as a knowledge to be somebody for the nation,” shares Namgay regarding his tenacious efforts and not giving up.
