The new Minister for Economic Affairs Lyonpo Lekey Dorji’s Thursday was spent on receiving the Dhar from His Majesty, taking an oath office in the Supreme Court followed by receiving traditional silk scarves from well wishers.
The new minister had a busy first day in the office on Friday. Lyonpo Lekey said, “I met a delegation from India which had the Power Secretary and other members like Joint Secretary North who had all come to discuss hydropower cooperation.”
Lyonpo told the Indian delegation that it was an auspicious sign that on his first day in office he met the Indian delegation.
This was interspersed with people still coming into offer silk scarves. The new minister also went to see off the former MoEA minister Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk to the Ministry of Education.
Lyonpo said, “I join the ministry with an open mind without any biases or preconceived notions.”
He said he would take briefings from various sectors under the ministry and carry on from there.
The minister pointed out that the MoEA was a vast and important ministry with several departments like hydropower, trade, industry, mining, Intellectual Property Rights, Consumer protection etc.
He said that an important area of focus would be on public service delivery.
