On March 10, Prime Minister Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay held an interactive meeting with the LG leaders, civil servants, corporate employees, business community members and the public at Gelephu Higher Secondary School.
During the meeting, Lyonchhen mentioned that Gelephu and Sarpang were important towns and economic development activities were viable in agriculture, animal husbandry and vocational training sectors. Lyonchhen assured the gathering that RGoB would initiate the developmental activities and provide the necessary support. On the way forward, the people will have to become responsible and work towards fulfilling their own objectives.
Lyonchhen informed them about the 11th FYP budget allocations and said that the government is looking for further possibilities in successfully implementing the plan. The concerns raised during the meetings were mostly with regard to safe drinking water supply, soil erosion, floods, roads, and other such issues in the region.
On Tuesday, similar meetings were conducted at Norbuling Middle secondary School and Sarpang Dzong. Lyonchhen informed everyone that with the introduction of Government Performance Management System (GPMS), there would be clear accountability in executing the plans and programs of the government. Lyonchhen announced that with GPMS, the performers will be rewarded accordingly and non-performers will have to submit appropriate justifications. Lyonchhen mentioned that there would be annual compact signing agreements between the Prime Minister and the ministers concerned and similarly down the line until the local government. The discussion on relocation of Gelephu dungkhag was held and it was decided that Gewog Tshogde and Dzongkhag Tshogdu should discuss and propose the area for relocation.
