Response to new track suit rule for schools

I have a 6 year old daughter who needs help to get dressed every morning with her kira while she heads to school. She loves to wear our traditional dress and i am extremely proud of that.

I was around 9/10 years old when the policy to wear our traditional dress to school started. It was inconvenient initially. At that age it was not understood why such a rule was implemented. Today as a grown woman, i understand and I am extremely proud to wear our national attire. Like my daughter i am proud to wear it and we love it. But while I go to do my exercise routine twice in a week, i prefer to wear my gym outfit and yes would not like to carry my set of kira, wonju, tego, kera around. I am sure my little one feels the same but she is too little to tell and even understand the inconvenience.

  1. Why don’t MOE stop this Hindi dance in School Cultural show and wearing track paints.Bhutan has scraficed a lot to preserve our unique dress and culture.Dont give message that we are Indian and make mistake by presenting cheap and shavy Indian Bollywood dance. We are Bhutanese and independent since Guru Padmasambhava.

  2. The schools in Thimphu especially the private ones are really harassing the already burdened parents. The ANNUAL CONCERT is a few hours program and individual student”s part is about 3-5 minutes. However, the students are required to buy different uniforms which are sometime difficult to get in whole of Thimphu which are also very expensive.(CINDERELLA”s DRESS TYPE) with matching SHOES, HAIR BAND and SOCKS. If this uniform can be worn after the concert it is well and good but the children do use it later and it is being wasted which was bought at a high cost.

Can the concern Schools think of some simple alternatives and wherein parents and students are not inconvenienced. This is an appeal from one of the parents on bahalf of all affected parents.
