PM addresses the Rotarians from 10 different countries

Rotarians stress on Responsible Entrepreneurship towards Sustainable Development  

Rotarians from 10 different countries participated inthe maiden club conference organized by Rotary Club of Thimphu titled-‘Responsible Entrepreneurship towards Sustainable Development’.

The three day long conference commenced from Friday with overwhelming number of Rotarians turn out to deliberate on the knowledge and experience of Rotary and Rotarians around the world.

Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay who graced as the chief guest ,shared that the vows of the rotary club is so simple yet so profound and theRotary members have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects.

Lyonchhen said that living and enjoying the present with no regard to the future is not responsible and it is not working responsibly towards sustainability.

“Sustainability is becoming fashionable and it is a good thing because just as we have inherited wealth and bountiful resources, just as we have inherited our culture from our ancestors we must ensure that we pass it on to the future generation”

Lyonchen said that the only reason and only guaranteed we have of passing it to our future generation is sustainability.

The conference is aimed at providing an international platform for learning and sharing of experiences.

The three days conference is scheduled with numerous Bhutanese and international speakers.

“The conference is also for Rotary Club of Thimphu to seek partnership to undertake future service projects in Bhutan,” the Director of Community Service, Dawa Penjor said.

According to the President of the Rotary Club of Thimphu, Tshewang Rinzin, the Rotary Club of Thimphu has come a long way. “ As a Rotarian we do not think of ourselves as a young club and walk away from living up to the spirit of Rotarian”

He said that the Thimphu Rotarians aspire to function like established clubs around the world and each day aspire to contribute to the Bhutanese society to make a difference.

He stated that the Rotary club has provided support in dreaming great dreams and putting them into action. “Our actions are visible as we have made difference in the lives of 100s of Bhutanese.” He said.

Rotary is a global network of 1.2 mn neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers in over 200 countries and geographical areas that come together to make positive, lasting change in communities at home and abroad.

Since its establishment the Club has progressively embraced the Rotary motto of ‘Service above Self’.

Today the Club is a wholly managed, owned and funded by 19 Bhutanese members and they undertake efforts to enhance local and global impact as a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO).

Ever since its establishment, the club has undertaken and supported more than 32 different projects worth more than US $260,000 in the area of health, education and agriculture, and further has provided more than US $100,000 in kind.

The projects were done through membership contribution as well as in partnership with numerous Rotary clubs from around the world in particular with Rotary Clubs from Japan, South Korea, Germany; Sweden; Australia and India.

A total of around 200 participating Rotarians and their spouses from 10 different countries-Brunei, Canada, HongKong, Japan, Malaysia, Poland, Romania, Singapore, and Thailand along with the Bhutanese Rotarians and invitees are attending the three days conference.

The Rotary Club of Thimphu was chartered on 24 April 2012 by then LyonpoYesheyZimba and the President of Rotary International, Rotarian Kalyan Banerjee (2011-2012).
