With 6,243 votes, Tirtha Man Rai, 31, was elected from Samtse for the third parliamentary NC election. Of the 6,243 votes, 5,277 was secured through EVM while 966 votes through postal ballot.
The elected candidate is a former teacher who graduated from Samtse College of Education with Bachelor’s degree in Education.
During the last interview with the paper hee said that since he understands people at the grass-roots level as he represents one of the remotest gewog in Samtse which makes him the right candidate for the people .“I was really interested serve the people since my childhood days as I had a good leadership quality. I want to serve the people with heart more than the brain.”
His priority area would be to engage in policy discourse to further strengthen national unity, sovereignty, democracy, culture, ethos, economy, environment and human dignity. He said that he would review the performance of government including implementation of planned activities for 12th five year plan.
The highest voter turnout this year was from Samtse.
While among the other nine candidates, Dhan Kumar Ghalley stands as second highest with 4,829 total votes followed by Ugyen Lama with 4,324 votes, Ngawang Nidup with 2,045 votes, Samten Lepcha with 1,833 votes followed by Badrinath Bhattarai with 1,826 votes.
Shadeo Rai got 1,758 votes followed by Chhatrapati Phuyel with 1,289 votes and Narayan Dahal got 800 votes.
