Selection for Women’s National Football Team starts today

The Bhutan Football Federation will be conducting a selection for the Women’s Football National Team from 9th to 23rd January for the year of 2016 in Gelephu and Tsirang. The selection camp will go on for 15 days with fooding and lodging provided by the BFF. The selection for Girls football team for under 16 category and under 14 category will be conducted in Tsirang’s Damphu High School Ground from January 10. The seniors National Team selection will be done in Gelephu Football Academy and will start from today. BFF will be monitoring the selection carefully with the assigned committee comprising Deputy General Secretary, coaches and Technical Director from BFF.

The Bhutan national women’s football team represents Bhutan in the international women’s football. The team is guided by the governing body for football in Bhutan, the Bhutan Football Federation, which is currently a member of the Asian Football Federation and the regional body the South Asian Football Federation and FIFA.

The teams hence selected will represent Bhutan in the South Asian Football Federation games in the coming year. More than 100 girls have registered in the senior’s category including some ex-players as well and the federation expects more to turn up in the following days. The teams with U-14 and U-16 category will be selected from the best players after a football match in their respective Dzongkhags.

The girls football assistant coach Denka, said that the performance of the girls football team overall has improved compared to past. While winning the game is still difficult, the girls have improved in terms of keeping the goal difference to a minimum. “The weather changes are bit concerning but I don’t think it will be an issue unless there is a heavy rainfall which might make the grounds marshy and muddy.” She said adding that this year they hope to select the best group of players.

The Gelephu Football Academy has been housing girls under 14 coaching football and training them every day. After the selection, The GFA will house the players in the under 16 category as well.
