A Foreign Ministry release said that a Chinese cultural troupe from the People’s Republic of China is visiting Bhutan from 26 September 2014 to 1 October 2014 to perform the ‘Chinese Shaolin Kungfu’ on the 27th, 28th and 29th of September 2014 in Thimphu.

The cultural troupe is being led by Zhang Zhihong, Culture Counselor of the Embassy of China in New Delhi and officials of China International Culture Association and the Henan Provincial Cultural Department.

The history of Shaolin Kungfu in China dates back to 621B.C. during the Tang Dynasty. It was practiced among warrior monks of the Shaolin Temple to fight against invading forces.

Besides providing the opportunity for the Bhutanese people to witness a magnificent display of China’s rich cultural heritage, such events also promote people-to-people contact and friendly relations between the two countries said the release.
