To commemorate the 60th birth anniversary of the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, the taxi committee of Thimphu will provide free services to all the peoples who are going to witness the celebration. The idea was initiated by taxi tshogpa Mr. Dorji Wangchuk. The idea was discussed earlier during the meeting with the taxi drivers. Almost all the taxi drivers were happy with the decision and hence most of them agreed.
The taxi tshogpa said, “This is a great opportunity to serve the people since it is a grand celebration”. A similar initiation was done during 2013 to celebrate the birth anniversary of His Majesty the King.
The service will start from 7:30 to 8:00 am in the morning till the end of the celebration on the 11th of November. So far more than hundred taxi drivers have registered. “I hope that others who are yet to register will also provide the service since all were happy and agreed to the decision” he said.
“We actually wish to provide three days service from the ninth till the eleventh but since it is inconvenient as most of the taxi drivers have a hand to mouth living,” he added.
The registration number is expected to increase from tomorrow onwards since he couldn’t approach everyone individually till now and most of the drivers are out of Thimphu.
The approach was made earlier today to the Ministry of Information and Communication (MOIC) to advertise to everyone that the free service will be provided for the eleventh of November. The ministry agreed to announce it through the media.
A 37 year old taxi driver Dechen Wangmo said that since she didn’t get the approached for the registration, she couldn’t register. “But it would be very nice to provide service to the people and I’ll be joining to provide the service for free too”. “I don’t want to miss this opportunity” she added.
