Thimphu City has allocated total amount of Nu 98 Million for the construction of sewerage treatment plants for Motithang and Yangchenphug areas. It is funded by the Government of India, under the Small Development Project. So far, Thromde has completed the paper work for tendering works.
Once it is fully constructed, the plant in the Motithang area will benefit places, like Changangkha, Kawajangsa and some parts of the town.
The sewerage treatment plant in Motithang area will have a carrying capacity or be able to treat the sewerage of 2 millimeter per day. Proposal to construct a sewerage plant in Yangchenphug area is under process. The sewerage treatment plant is to be constructed around the old Yangchenphug ground.
Official with the sewerage section of Thromde,Samten, said careful consideration is being made to enhance the sewerage treatment plants. He said Thromde ensures and notifies the contractors to submit the sewerage layout drawing to the head of sewerage section through architect cell for new sewerage connection while floating the tender for approval and scrutiny.
The final connection to the municipal manhole will be verified and approved by Thimphu Thromde. Periodic inspection by the sewerage section officials will also ensure that the works are carried out as per the desired specifications and standards.
As per the Water and Sanitation Rules, 1995, the Thromde also inspects to see that the distance between the proposed sewer connection and the nearest municipal sewer do not exceed 70 m.
