Two Indian men arrested for gold smuggling

Regional Revenue and Customs Office (RRCO) in Paro has handed over two Indian men, one 36 years old and the other 40 years old, to the Paro police in connection to the gold smuggling on June 5.

On June 5 at around 12:30 hrs, RRCO apprehended the two suspects at the airport terminal in Paro International Airport.  The two suspects were coming from Bangkok via Druk-Air.

Police said that the custom officials stated that the suspects had concealed the gold items in silver coating and were worn around their necks, arms and fingers. The suspects confessed to have brought the gold to sell.

The 36- year-old man was apprehended for the possession of one gold chain, one gold bracelet and one gold ring weighing 110 gm, while the 40-year-old had one gold chain, one gold bracelet and one gold ring weighing 270.2 gm.

The seized gold is kept with RRCO. The suspects are under police detention for further investigation.
