Paro Dzongkhag court sentenced 43-year old Chimi Dorji, to a prison term of two years for stabbing a 53-year old on the night of 7 October, 2012 in his house in Paro.
The victim is the husband of the convict’s elder sister.
The incident had occurred at the victim’s place at Tshendona, Paro, where the victim is settled with his family.
The verdict was passed yesterday and the court has ordered the convict to pay Nu 180,000 to the victim for the injuries since the victim had sustained a serious penetrating injury to his abdomen.
The convict has 10 days to pay the compensation and also to appeal.
The convict was arrested the same night from the crime scene. He had sniffed dendrite and had gone to the house of the victim.
As the victim had entered the sitting room, the suspect took out his Rambo knife and stabbed the victim on the right side of his body, below the chest.
During the time of the incident the victim’s son, and one of his friends who was also present caught hold of the suspect before he could flee the scene.
The Police was immediately informed by the victim’s son and the victim was rushed to Paro hospital by the other family members.
The same evening the victim was referred to JDWNR hospital. The convict is a divorcee and has two children.
