What the MoIC and the media are doing to celebrate the 60th anniversary

As a part of the celebration of His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo turning 60 on November 11, 2015, the Ministry of Information and Communications’ and the Media is playing an important role in celebrating the occasion.

Bhutan Post will be inaugurating the Postal museum: Evolution of the Communication System in Bhutan today in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee. The museum will take visitors through a nostalgic walk on the evolving communication

system through time in Bhutan. Special Stamps will also be launched by the Bhutan post.

Along with it, a new terminal at the Paro International Airport will also be inaugurated.

One of the major approved activities of the Media & Communications Sub-Committee dedicated to the celebration is to provide internet connectivity to 50 schools.

This initiative of providing internet connectivity to the 50 schools will contribute to empower rural people, connectivity and enhance knowledge and skills in ICT amongst students and teachers.

This project was funded by The Universal Service Fund (USF) under the Royal Government of Bhutan Bhutan Telecom Ltd connected 46 schools and and Tashi InfoComm connected the remaining four schools.

The MoIC has also come up with a special website dedicated to celebrating the event.

“His Majesty has been a big supporter of the media. He made the Bhutanese media independent on October 1992 indicating that the media to develop must be independent,” said Dasho Kinley Dorji, Secretary of MoIC.

As a part of the celebration, BBS will be airing documentaries on His Majesty’s coronation, Silver Jubilee celebrations and historic addresses and a series about the pillars of GNH. There will also be programs on achievers in education, environment, economy and stories of people whose lives have changed for the better because of Kidu from His Majesty.

There will be a compilation of His Majesty’s visits abroad and home. People born on 11th Nov. 1955 will be identified there will also be gift hampers for newborn babies at the JDWNRH on 11th November 2015.

The print media houses including this paper are coming out with special articles and supplements to felicitate His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

There have also been special books and magazines released by various media houses and other publications.
