Woman hit by taxi dies in hospital

A 35-year-old woman, who was severely injured after being hit by a taxi while crossing the Babesa expressway near Dr Tobgyal School at around 7 pm on November 9, died on reaching Thimphu hospital.

A 26-year-old man from Zhemgang was driving the taxi out of Thimphu at the time of the incident. He immediately rushed the woman (who is from Lhuentse) to hospital, but she succumbed to injuries.

The Thimphu traffic division said the probable reason behind the accident was over speeding, not having proper control and inexperienced driving.

The suspect will be charged under section 66 of RSTA Act 1999.
