A rescue team comprising of De-suung, police, army and other volunteers are still in search of a body of a 25-year-old woman who got washed away in Thimphu in the Dodena river. The incident took place on 18 July at around 1 PM.
The deceased along with her two friends (a 29-year-old man and 19-year-old girl) went for a sight seeing at Dodena park and after that they went for a swim in the same place.
It was learnt that the deceased knows how to swim but the unfortunate incident happened due to a sudden high water current. Her friend tried to save her but she couldn’t be saved as the body of the deceased disappeared.
RBP asked the public to avoid swimming in the stream during monsoon as the level of the water rises.
Meanwhile, police said that this is the third case of drowning this year so far, including this incident. A body of a man in his late 40’s was fished out two months ago while one body of a monk was also fished out recently.
