World Press Freedom Day to be observed today in Taj today

Every year, May 3rd is observed as World Press Freedom Day to celebrate press freedom, to evaluate press freedom around the world, to defend attacks on media’s independence and to pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives while carrying out their journalistic profession.

Journalists Association of Bhutan (JAB) which has the mandate to promote freedom of the press, welfare of journalists and professionalism of the journalistic fraternity, among others, is organizing a panel discussion on the theme “Freedom with responsibility” to observe World Press Freedom day on May 3, 2014.

The discussion will encourage journalists to introspect on their roles in a democratic society and explore the notion and idea of freedom within in Bhutan’s unique social, cultural, and political climate.

It will also allow for brainstorming about the challenges confronting Bhutan’s young media and its impact on the independence and freedom of journalism.

The occasion will be graced by the MoIC Minister Lyonpo D.N Dhungyel and will be attended by many dignitaries and journalists
