Young couple caught for robbing Thimphu court

Thimphu police arrested two suspects, a 34-year-old man and his 25-year-old wife for breaking into the Thimphu district court on January 2 and robbing Nu 575,000.

The woman was the court night guard’s sister. She was asked by the court to replace the night guard for a while after he had fallen ill. He was away since beginning of January.

The money robbed was surety bail amount  (SBA) and assorted funds kept in a steel almirah in the accounts office.

The amount was kept there after the bank did not accept it as the money was brought during the bank accounts closing time.

The steel closet was found broken and blackened by smoke the next day. Police said the matchsticks recovered from the crime scene were used by the burglars to light the room instead of switching on the bulbs.  The case is still under investigation.
