18th India House Golf Tournament concludes

His Royal Highness Dasho Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck and Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay graced the prize distribution ceremony of the India House Golf tournament 2013 on November 10.

The tournament was organized at the India House Golf Club, Thimphu, over a period of five days from November 5 to 9 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the His Majesty the fourth King and to foster the Indo-Bhutan friendship.

A total of 139 golfers participated in this year’s tournament.

45 golfers played on the first day on November 5, 49 on the second on November 6 and 45 on day- 3 on November 7. 64 golfers made the cut to play the finals that were played on November 8 & 9 with 32 golfers playing on each of the two final days.

Champion or net winner of the tournament was Karma Wangchuk (Nongshim) who won a cash prize of Nu 0.2mn and the gross category was won by Mr. Karma Wangchuk who won Nu 50,000. The overall gross runner up was Bisu Rai who won an Apple ipad and Tenzing Namgyal Namda who won the overall net runners up was awarded return air tickets for a couple to Delhi.

The Day-1 gross was won by Captain (Retd) B.B.Gurung who received a notebook laptop. The Day-1 net was won by Col Jambay whoalso got a notebook laptop. The Day-2 net was won by Tenzing Namda who was awarded an Apple ipod shuffle.

Tshering Penjore who had a ‘Hole in one’ won a Galaxy Tablet. Lt Col (Retd) Ugyen Phuntso had nearest to pin winning a notebook laptop.

The youngest participant was Rahul Bujal and the oldest participant was Dasho Kipchu Dorji. Both received an Apple ipod shuffle.

Secretary of the India House Golf Club and Counselor, Subrata Das commended the enthusiasm of Bhutan’s golfing community to the tournament with 139 participants. He applauded the golfers for their sporting sprit and thanked the sponsors.

Patron of India House Golf Club and Indian Ambassador V.P.Haran provided a backgrounder to the India House Golf Tournament and recounted vignettes of the initial years of the tournament.

The India House Golf Club under the auspices of the embassy of India has been organizing the prestigious India House Golf tournament since 1995 coinciding with the birth anniversary of His Majesty the fourth King.

Its popularity has grown over the years amongst the golfing community which include ministers, senior civil servants and officers of the armed forces.
