544, 773 individuals’ biometric collected till 31 December 2022

The Department of Information Technology and Telecom (DITT) has collected the nationwide biometric of 544,773 individuals as of December end 2022. The department has completed 76.47 percent of the project.

Digital wallet testing has been completed within DHI. Biometric Data collection for Thimphu Thromde was officially closed by the end of December 2022.

However, the services are still provided at Department of Civil Registration and Census.

Way forward and future plans for continuous collection will be presented to the project steering committee by January 2023.

Digital Identity is one of the main results focused under the main Digital Drukyul Flagship Program of Nu 2.557 billion.

However, according to the State of Nation report, the budget has been revised. The revised budget of Nu 2.68 billion (bn) aims to harness the power of information and communication technology (ICT) to transform Bhutan into a smart and inclusive society.

A significant component of this flagship project is the National Digital Identity (NDI) project which started on 13 October 2021.
