Her Majesty the Queen Mother Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck launched a dzongkha biography book of Her Majesty the late Gayum, Ashi Phuntsho Choden Wangchuck at the Convention Centre in Thimphu yesterday.
The launch was attended by members of parliaments, senior officials, monk body and drangpons.
The 370-page book was compiled and written by Lopon Yonten Phuntsho from His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo’s secretariat in memory of Her Majesty Ashi Phuntsho Choden, the Queen Mother of His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.
Lopen Yonten Phuntsho, 60-years old from Mongar, took almost six years to research and compile the book.
The late Gyalyum was passed away at the age of 92 on the morning of 24th August 2003 at her residence in Dechencholing Goenpa.
She was born in 1911 at Wangdue Choling Palace to Dasho Jamyang of the Tamzhing Choeje family and Ashi Dechog, daughter of Ashi Yeshi Choden who was the sister of the fisrt king Gongsar Ugyen Wangchuck.
She was enthroned as the Queen of the second King Jigme Wangchuck at the age of 15.
The six years of research and compilation on the life history of Late Gayum Her Majesty Phuntsho Choden was finally completed with this book.
In 1928, at the age of 18, she gave birth to the third Druk Gyalpo, His Majesty King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, at Thrupang Palace in Trongsa.
