Jose Mourinho’s pursuit of Manchester United striker
Wayne Rooney will go right down to deadline day with the Chelsea manager admitting the club will continue their chase “until the last day”.
Unsettled striker Rooney has long been rumoured with a move to Chelsea, speculation building that the England international will submit a transfer requestto push through a move to London.
United have maintained their stance Rooney is not for sale, knocking back a second offer from Chelsea for the 27-year-old.
“We made the bid and United have reacted. Let’s see what happens. But we can’t do more than we are doing now.”
“We are doing things legally, making the official bid directly to the club. We are doing everything in an ethical way, so let’s see if things change.”
However, Mourinho quashed rumours that David Luiz was set to depart the club after reports emerged that Spanish champions Barcelona had made a £35 million bid for the Brazil international.
“We don’t want to lose our best players. No chance,” Mourinho said.
